New Youth Coaching Certification Standards set by WYSL

Following on from the great success of the NSCAA Level 1 course role out across the region last season, the WYSL is again leading the way in youth soccer coaching education by increasing the minimum coaching level requirement for all new coaches to the NSCAA level 2 certification.

The league believes that the Level 2 course is more geared towards the mainstay of what travel coaches require as a base level of knowledge to impart to the players under their tutelage.

NSCAA Level 2 details:

• Course will comprise of 6 hours of education, both classroom and field.
• The course will encompass 8 learning outcomes:
   

1. Session Structure & Organization
2. Safety & Risk Management
3. Repetition - the key to technical mastery and forming positive habits
4. Progressions - how to challenge your players appropriately
5. Role & Traits of a youth soccer coach
6. Coaching Philosophy
7. Coaching children - age consideration
8. Differentiation

• Course cost = $95

WYSL will also host higher level NSCAA certification courses (Levels 3-6) for those coaches who would like to continue their coaching education, and this is something recommended for coaches who have older teams that play in 11v11 format.

The league is securing multiple locations on multiple dates to allow all coaches easy access to take the Level 2 course and improve themselves as a youth soccer coach and mentor.

The course dates and locations will be conveyed jointly to all clubs/coaches through the WYSL and New York Red Bulls.

WYSL - Red Bulls Select Program

This is an exciting time for the league. This Fall, the WYSL - Red Bulls Select Program begins its inaugural season. The Partnership program strives to offer supplementary elite training for Westchester Youth Soccer League players from certified Red Bulls coaches. The Program runs the full soccer calendar (Fall, Winter, Spring) and will consist of weekly Monday evening training sessions and tournament play.

Details:

• The program, for its inaugural year, is for players born between 8/1/05 to 7/31/07 only.
• The players must be registered with a Westchester Youth Soccer League member club to participate in this program.
• Two rounds of try outs will be held in September at Saxon Woods Park (1800 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, NY):
   
  • Try Out 1 = September 21, 2015
    •  5:30 - 7 p.m. (U-9 Boys and Girls)
    • 7 - 8:30 p.m. (U-10 Boys and Girls)

• Try Out 2 - Call backs = September, 28
  • These try outs will be for players called back from the first try out only. 
  • Players who want to be part of the program must attend the first try out to be eligible for the final try out on September 28, no player can be eligible for the second without first passing through try out 1.
     

• The cost of try outs is a one-time fee of $10.

• The program, in its entirety (Spring, Winter, Fall) will cost $575 + cost of uniform
